Dear Student and Parents / Guardians!
Welcome to the 2015 - 2016 Academic Year
Every year in the beginning of the class, I hear the same question:
"Why do we need to study history?, it's the past and no longer important"
To get why, I would like you to consider two concepts:
1. At one point you, I and every single person on earth, will be someone's history...
2. Cicero (google) wrote, "To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child."
In our classes you will be challenged to critically discuss, assess, and evaluate national and global issues through a variety of teaching strategies and comparative viewpoints. My job as a teacher is to allow you to broaden your awareness and perspective of your community, nation and the world.
The “past” will not be taught as a series of events, facts and people in isolation. We will always find a connection and relevance to our lives, a greater historical and global perspective and multicultural awareness of the present.
In our classroom you will be engaged in the learning process, challenged to achieve academic excellence and respect differences!
In other words, let's grow together, try to figure out how to make sure that we are on the right side of history and learn a bunch of fun stuff in the process!
Your teacher,
Victoria Barsky
M.S. Education, PhD History
